VFX ART DIRECTOR | ZERO VFX - On this project we created the ice pond that Amy falls into. Working out of Zero VFX’s Boston office I led the team in defining the look of the ice and surrounding snowy environment. I created concept art for nearly every shot to help guide all departments. I also created projection setups and stitched plates for each shot and executed many of the matte paintings myself. Additionally I was responsible for providing feedback in dailies and reviewing submissions from remote artists.
MATTE PAINTER | ZERO VFX - I made several concepts for the roof of this building. Once the director selected a version I modeled, textured and lit the asset. Additional detail was painted in Photoshop and projected in Nuke.
MATTE PAINTER | ZERO VFX - From concept to final matte painting, I reshaped and extended the environment to lead straight down to the steps of Pittsburgh’s Allegheny Courthouse. With extensive research I pieced together the city to represent how it looked down Wylie Ave in the 1950’s. CG assets were provided, with some painted over and projected.
MATTE PAINTER | ZERO VFX - Extended the jungle environment.
MATTE PAINTER | ZERO VFX - Added snow to the ground and cars.
MATTE PAINTER | ZERO VFX - Responsible for creating the full environment from scratch. Clouds were rendered in Terragen. The landscape was painted in Photoshop and projected onto simple geometry in Nuke.
LEAD DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT ARTIST | ZERO VFX - I worked with our VFX supervisor and the production’s art director to create concepts for key shots, and later on led our environment team in creating mountain assets that were used in over 50 shots across multiple sequences.
MATTE PAINTER | BRAINSTORM DIGITAL - For the shot of Jordan’s beach house I changed the surrounding environment to help set the shot in the Hamptons. Additions to the set were modeled, textured and lit in Maya, with additional detail painted in photoshop and projected in Nuke. For the shot of the dock I created an extension in Maya and painted over the render in Photoshop. The background was painted in part from reference provided by the production.
LEAD MATTE PAINTER | ZERO VFX - Concepts and matte painting.
LEAD DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT ARTIST | ZERO VFX - On this commercial I was lucky enough to work closely with Terragen’s founder and lead developer Matthew Fairclough. Basing the mountain range on heightfield data of the Grand Tetons we created snowy mountains and clouds to set the backdrop for this commercial.
LEAD MATTE PAINTER | ZERO VFX - Seen here is the tail end of a pullout shot from the ground into space. Earth was created using a combination of Terragen and Photoshop.
